Marketing Jobs Sarasota: 5 Tips on How to Land a Great Career

The job market has finally made its way back to a healthy state, but that doesn't mean that you can just apply for a job and expect to get hired.  You can, however, increase your odds of getting noticed by doing your homework and making sure that the marketing jobs you want are just as attracted to you as you are to them. Use these tips to get ahead of your competition and make a great impression to potential employers:

  1. Get Certified.  If you're looking at marketing jobs, you need to make sure that you're marketable. Become Inbound Certified through HubSpot, for starters.  By doing this, you'll show that you are committed to becoming great at inbound marketing and your potential position, and you'll be far more likely to stand out above the rest of your competition.  Keep an eye on essential certifications required or desired by companies you're pursuing, too.  The more you can cater yourself to your desired companies, the more likely it is that you'll be discovered. Read our blog about why you should become inbound certified here!

  2. Resume-Building.  It's no secret that your resume is a critical key to your success.  You need to have a strong resume that speaks to the value you can offer your potential company.  Not all marketing jobs are created equal, so be sure to tailor your resume to each specific job to which you're applying.  Keywords are a necessary part of the resume process, as often times, your qualifications are scanned by a computer long before a human has his or her hands on your information. Check out this HubSpot blog on how to write a great marketing resume!

  3. Be Interview-Ready.  Preparing for an interview is an interesting balance between over- and under-preparing.  You need to make sure that you're ready to talk about yourself, including your strengths and weaknesses, but you don't want to sound rehearsed.  Research interview questions online and be ready to answer the traditional questions, as well as the out-of-the-ordinary.

  4. Know What the Company Wants.  Marketing jobs are based on the foundation of building a brand. Know what your potential company's goal is before you step into the interview.  Understand the mission statement, vision, values, culture, and goals, and be ready to explain how you can fill in the gaps and add to their team.

  5. Connect.  Utilize the powers of LinkedIn and social media to integrate yourself into groups that can put you "in the know" with those who can help you to elevate professionally.
